Hard at it...
If you were to enter my shop on a Monday, Wednesday, or Friday this is more than likely how you would find me. My favorite spot for final shaping of bits and stummels.
On the buffer...
Bringing out the final luster on the smooth rim of a rusticated pipe. You have to be careful here, one wrong move and you could have a pipe for the scrap bin!
The lathe chuck...
This is the chuck I use to rough bore the tobacco chamber, draft hole, and mortise into a stummel. Shown with the tool rest swung temporarily out of the way. My son-in-law built this one and it works great!
On the sander...
Roughing out a stummel on the belt sander. This is a great machine for removing material quickly, I use it for rough shaping before oil curing as well as after to remove the "skin coat" left behind by the process.
Stem work...
Drilling a stem on the lathe. The interior work of my stems is done on the lathe, with the exception of the bit end, this I open up by hand. The exterior shaping of the stem is also completely done by hand.
Having a blast...
Trying to bring out that beautiful ring grain! Here you see me using the blast rig, this one works great for overall blasting as well as medium to fine detail work. Here I like low light overhead, so I can see what's going on inside the box.
